Lip fillers are an injectable cosmetic treatment that adds volume to your lips. Unfortunately, they don’t stop the aging process. Still, they can delay the signs of aging signs and can even delay the need for more invasive surgical procedures (such as lip augmentation). Most patients rely on lip fillers to give their lips a lift to help them achieve the desired look and minimize fine lines. As a result, lip fillers are extremely common, with more than 2 million patients requesting this treatment each year. If you’re curious about lip fillers or if they are right for you, call our office today to request a consultation!

Do your lips go back to normal after fillers?

The good news is that Lip fillers are temporary. However, the length of time it will take for your lips to return to normal is dependent on your metabolism. When you book your consultation, your technician can discuss the pros and cons of this treatment and estimate how long you can expect to enjoy your results before they return to their normal appearance.

How long do lip fillers last?

Most patients can expect to enjoy the results of their lip filler for 12-18 months, depending on their age and how fast their body metabolizes the injected product. Of course, each patient is different, and your results may vary, but your technician should be able to give you a reasonable expectation during your consultation.

What are the benefits of lip fillers?

Patients love lip fillers because of the many advantages over a surgical procedure, including they are safe with a low risk of complications. In addition, many patients have reported that lip fillers boost their self-esteem. They are also reversible; if you are unhappy with the look of your injections, this is not a permanent treatment.

What are the risks?

There are risks with any cosmetic procedure; with lip fillers, hazards include bleeding and discomfort at the injection site. In addition, some patients experience cold sore reactivation, discoloration, or tenderness. In rare cases, infection and tissue death are possible, but this is rare in a professional medical setting.

When can I eat or drink after having a lip filler?

It’s best to wait to eat until after the topical anesthetic or nerve block injection has worn off so you don’t accidentally disturb the filler. You should also avoid eating any messy foods that may cause you to wipe your face or lips for the first 24 hours after your treatment. If you are prone to bruising, it’s best to avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours which can make bruising worse.

Before booking your first appointment, you might be curious about what will happen to your lips; if you decide fillers aren’t for you, cancel any future filler appointments. Your lips will gradually return to their usual size.

How do lip injections work?

Lip fillers are typically made of cosmetic products containing an ingredient called hyaluronic acid or HA. HA is a natural product responsible for locking in moisture to the skin. You’ve probably seen this in the ingredient list for skin and hair care products. Most lip injections also include a numbing medication like lidocaine mixed into the filler to create a painless injection. At LUX, we know every patient has unique needs, so we are proud to offer a wide variety of lip fillers for you to choose from to ensure you’ll find the right product for your desired look. Each product we use has been proven to enhance the appearance of lips that might otherwise be too thin. In addition, our highly trained staff will be able to answer any questions you may have and help you determine which treatment is best for you.

How long do lip injections last?

Each patient can react to cosmetic treatments differently. Like any treatment, results will depend on your body, the type of injectable you use, how fast your body metabolizes the product, and how full you prefer your lips to look. Typically most patients can expect lip fillers to last between 12-and 18 months. Because this product dissipates slowly, most patients schedule a maintenance routine, so their lips will retain the same level of fullness at all times; you’ll never need as much filler for maintenance treatments as you will for your initial treatment. Meaning the cost per visit goes down over time.

What services are commonly paired with lip fillers?

Botox is common injection that many people pair with lip fillers. Botox can be injected into the muscles around the lips, which will slightly relax your lips, giving you a slight pout without adding any volume so your lips will stay the same size. Many patients start with Botox before upgrading to fillers.

Botox around the mouth can also prevent the muscle from making exaggerated motions which cause lines to form around the mouth. This is also highly requested as a preventative measure to prevent deep lines from forming.

Kybella is another injectable paired with lip filler and is part of a “Liquid lift procedure.” This simple cosmetic injection is FDA-approved to eliminate fat under the chin safely. So if you’ve been bothered by a double chin or wish your jawline was more defined, Kybella is for you. Call us today to book your appointment!
