What is the recovery like after microneedling? Any side effects?
Like most cosmetic procedures there is a small chance for an adverse reaction. However, with microneedling, the most common side effect is minor skin irritation immediately following the procedure. In some cases, you might see an appearance of redness on the treated areas for a few days.
Microneedling isn’t for everyone. If you are pregnant, have recently undergone radiation treatments, or have certain skin diseases such as eczema or psoriasis, you would not be an ideal candidate for this procedure.
The recovery time from microneedling is minimal. Most people need very little downtime to recover if any at all. It’s common to experience some minor skin irritation in the first few days following your procedure. This is a normal response as your skin recovers from the needle pricks. Almost all of our patients return to work the same day after receiving their treatment. It’s common to need a bit more makeup in the first few days after the treatment to hide any redness.
Although microneedling comes with minimal downtime, it’s still important to give your skin a little extra TLC following this procedure. Your skin will be sensitive to the sun, so SPF is a must. In fact, we recommend avoiding extreme sun exposure for a few days. Because of the skin’s ability to regenerate quickly, the results from your microneedling will be visible within a few weeks of your first session. In order to obtain the maximum benefits of microneedling, we recommend that you book multiple sessions. Usually optimal results are achieved after 3 sessions and then maintenance sessions can be booked in the future to prolong the benefits of your resurfaced skin.
